So my hair isn't coarse and it isn't fine. I am African American with a good grade of hair. It's curly thick but finer than some. My sister purchased an Amika flat iron and I LOVED how my hair turned out when I used it. I had a older version of a Hot Tools flat iron that I loved but it just didn't do what my sister's did for my hair. I wanted to stay with the Hot Tools brand because the maximum heat adjustment was higher than the Amika. So I did my research. I looked up what made the Amika different from my former flat iron. The floating plates, negative ion, and infared technology was the difference. I found this flat iron with all those qualities AND the 430 degree heat adjustment. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY THE BEST FLAT IRON I'VE EVER HAD IN MY 27 YEARS OF LIVING! A GREAT BUY!
